Dan McGraw’s property near Green Bay
1:00 Saturday until 8:00 Sunday
The scenario is of two picket lines near Fredericksburg on Christmas
night (1862) decide to share the holiday and a camp fire. Good cheer,
maybe song and a gift will be exchanged. Rations specific to each side
will also be shared.
RATIONS (each man brings his own)
Federals: hard tack, desiccated vegetables(or a potato or two) if possible and real coffee. Feds don’t bring meat.
Confederate: cornmeal and/or flour and meat in abundance. This way
there is a communal meal of shared foods, thus greater bonding.
IMPRESSIONS
Confederate: ANV post commutation with commutation supplies still prevalent
Federal: Fed gear appropriate for the time. Overcoats of course are acceptable.

SCHEDULE
12:00 to 1:00 arrival
1:00 the two groups form and move to their individual sides of the site
where they will set up their picket post and a picket fire in an out of
the way spot. Each side will run a picket until a time when the two
leaders will begin the next phase of the event.
At some point the two sides will decide to get together and share a
fire. At that point both sides will build a fire, cook rations and
bond. We will end up camping together so if straw is desired we’ll have
to figure out what side we will use as our camp spot and have stuff
there.
Pre-Dawn Sunday
The two groups will shake hands and return to their posts, posts
they’ll man until 7:00ish. At that point both sides return to the
house/parking and go get warm.
SPECIAL NOTE
The idea is that each man brings what a soldier would have carried on
winter picket. Extra blankets and an overcoat sure make sense, but
please don’t bring six blankets for yourself for realistically would
guys have been able to carry that much to the post? Spooning will keep
you warm, that a big fire.
GIFT
Bring one gift that you are willing to give to a chum of either army.
This gift must come from your kit. The idea is a random, spontaneous
sharing of a gift. Ordering something for this is too reenactor like
and not in the spirit of this event.

Other than that come and have some fun and relax with chums away from
all the family holiday hoopla that can take away from the spirit of the
holiday.
